Billy Graham Rule (aka Mike Pence Rule)

Here are some posts I find particularly insightful:

“10 reasons why Mike Pence’s ‘Billy Graham Rule’ harms us” by Natalie Collins

“The Mickey Mouse Syndrome: Avoiding the Temptation or the Appearance of Evil” by Jill Richardson

Also very relevant:

Note: If you are not able to meet alone with someone without feelings of attraction that you are afraid you might act on inappropriately, remove yourself from ministry immediately and get help and support.

  1. I remember back in the early 90’s, our pastor (Nazarene denomination), came for a visit during the day. I welcomed him inside and he immediately asked “is your husband home?” When I said no, he literally about tripped over himself to get out of my house. I was stunned and confused. He never called or came over again, even though we were members in that church. These articles are very good, thank you for sharing them.

    1. You’re welcome. And yes, I can imagine this situation. I used to meet a pastor for coffee every once and awhile, after our denomination told pastors how harmful the BGR was. But they were given no guidance on how to change their approach. As a result, we would be sitting in this public place having good conversations, while at the same time he brought a vibe that clearly communicated that he was feeling brave and daring for “breaking” the rules. It made things very awkward, as you can imagine.
